Lloyd W. Armbrust
Founder & CEO
Prior to starting OwnLocal, Lloyd spent 15+ years in the newspaper industry, starting as a circulation call-center manager, and then moving into digital sales and content management for newspaper websites. Working for Morris Communications, he started one of the first video production departments at a newspaper and raised sales and user engagement by 500%. In 2008, he founded OwnLocal, and in 2010 received funding from Y Combinator, Baseline Ventures, Lerer Media Ventures, the Knight Foundation, Paul Buccheit, and several other Angels. He is a graduate of York College, lives in Austin, TX with his 4 kids all under the age of 12, and is abnormally strong for his size.
Chief Revenue Officer
Landon has spent his career scaling multiple startups and managing turnarounds across a variety of industries, including enterprise tech, retail services, medical, and direct response. Having held several senior executive roles leading sales, operations, and marketing teams throughout his 20+ year career, he most recently served as President and COO of Total Men's Medical. At OwnLocal, Landon's focus is to help scale operations and drive growth. He’s a dad, a dog whisperer, shark wrestler, and his arch nemeses codenamed him the Asian James Bond.
Chief Financial Officer
Darryll comes to OwnLocal with more than 25 years of financial and operational experience in the retail, direct response advertising, staffing, and manufacturing industries. In recent years Darryll co-founded several startups in the business consulting, Med-Spa, and high-end Salon spaces. Previously he served as President and CEO of Hair Club. Prior to Hair Club, Darryll worked as CFO of Tandem Staffing Solutions, a Cerberus Capital Management company. Before that he was Worldwide Financial Director for British based FKI, and President of the Americas at Certex. Darryll has a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from New Mexico State University and is a Texas Certified Public Accountant. He is a sailor, gourmet chef, news junkie, and proud parent to his cat, Magnet.
VP of Product
Jonathan Dawe (or “JD”, his nom de startup) has 15 years of experience building software products and teams. Starting his career as a teenager, he's been a designer, developer, advisor, and founding team member at a handful of startups, including Main Street Hub and Help.com. He now brings his experience, leadership, and the intersection of his deep expertise in the areas of local business, advertising, and publishing to OwnLocal. Jonathan has a B.A. in philosophy and English literature, was a member of a Chicago rock band, and ran an art gallery out of his apartment. He lives in Austin, TX with his wife and son.
VP of People Operations
Michele comes to OwnLocal with more than 17 years of human resources experience in the staffing, consumer services, and retail industries. Michele recently headed the HR department at Hancock Fabrics in Tupelo, MS and served as Director of Associate Relations and Recruiting at Helzberg Diamonds in Kansas City, MO. Michele brings a deep expertise in Employee Relations, Performance Management, Employment Law, Compensation and Benefits to OwnLocal. Michele has a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Florida Atlantic University and J.D. degree from the Fredric G. Levin College of Law at the University of Florida. She and her husband Reuben have four fabulous children, she loves to read, and allegedly bakes amazing desserts.
VP of Engineering
Richard’s 20+ year Internet career began with putting the Amarillo Globe-News (Morris Communications) on the Web. After several Austin startups, including Deja.com (acquired by Google and Half.com), Richard ran a small development consultancy from Austin launching showcase products and improving operations. He served as Global Director of IT for frog design, furthering a passion for user experience. Most recently, he was Head of Engineering for YouScience, career guidance using a unique psychometric approach to career matching. Richard is a graduate from West Texas A&M University and the University of Texas McCombs School of Business (GM). He enjoys spending time with his wife and children, at Walt Disney World.
